(WORDING)

Introducing Emmalia Marie Davis

Emma is doing great!  She is breathing on her own with no assistance!  She is a whopping 3 pounds 11 ounces.  They will have to monitor her closely for the next 48 hours, but for now, she is doing awesome!  We are so in love with her!

Hospital Stay Day 2

Okay........so more blood draws for more blood tests today.  And I am still doing the urine test for Preeclamsia.   This should end sometime this evening. I also saw my specialist today.  Dr. Chi told us that that the baby looks good but on a the small side.  And the reason for that is because my placenta is looking bad and the baby may be getting what she needs.  She said it looks like I "smoked 10 packs of cigarettes a day".   Not great news!   She talked of bed rest for the next couple of weeks but I had a feeling that I won't be leaving this hospital pregnant.   And my feeling was correct.

When I got back in my room, I was wanting a shower so bad, so I asked the nurse if I could take one.  She gave me what I needed so I sent Kevin and Peyton off to get something to eat while I showered.  I wasn't in the shower for two minutes when the nurse knocked on my door saying that Dr. Swing wanted to talk to me.   Great!  So I quickly finished and got dressed.  By this time, Dr. Swing had to see another patient, so she had the nurse deliver the news.

So...... because of my elevated enzymes, elevated blood pressure, swelling, itching and now degrading placenta, she felt it would be best to deliver the baby.  Hearing this put me in panic mode.  The baby will be a preemie, but my doctor felt that the baby will thrive better outside than inside of the womb.  They will start me with steriod shots to mature the lungs and tomorrow evening they want to deliver.

When the nurse left, I called Kevin and told him what was said.  Upon returning, we discussed it more and called the nurse that delivered the news back to ask more questions.  She answered the best she could but told us that she would get a NICU nurse in to talk to us more about what we will be facing.   The NICU nurse came about 30 minutes later and we bombarded her with one question after another.

So to make a long conversation short, the NICU nurse told us that Emma will  most probably be fine.  Because I am 33 1/2 weeks pregnant, pretty much we only may have to deal with breathing problems.  No long-term issues are usually seen with babies are over 32 weeks.  This made us feel so much better about the whole thing, but I am still very nervous about my girl.  I can only hope and pray that everything turns out okay with her.  I pray that the steroid shots work and her little lungs will work fine.

Kevin and Peyton just left for the evening, so I am by myself to ponder over everything.  I am trying to stay strong and not let myself become upset.   Right now Emma is having hiccups.  She has been having them like every two hours.  I am hoping that this is a good sign that she is practicing her breathing for tomorrow evening.

Hospital Stay Day 1

Yesterday I had a doctor's appointment to have blood drawn to check for Cholestasis.  The first thing that was alarming was that my blood pressure was elevated.  This has been getting worse.  My blood pressure would be okay one visit and not with another.  It has never been super high, but high enough for concern.  I have been itchy, but that has not been bad either.  I also have been dealing with some swelling in my legs and feet.   All of these thing are not making me look good here!!  I had Cholestasis with Peyton, but only dealt with severe itching.  My blood pressure was fine and I definitely did not have any swelling.    Well..... my doctor called me today and told me she wanted me in the hospital.  My blood work came back and my enzymes was also elevated.  She was concerned about Preeclamsia.  And she didn't want to take any chances.  I was suppose to start the 24 hr  home urine test for Preeclamsia today, but my doctor told me she wanted the hospital to do it as I was being monitored.

Of course when I got the call, I was babysitting Logan and Brenna to give Becca a chance to get over her bad cold, but had to call her to come get the kids.  I felt really bad for that because she JUST dropped them off, but she understood.

First thing they did after checking in the hospital was hook me up to the fetal monitor and start the urine test (24 hour test) for Preeclamsia.  Good news is that there is no protein in my urine.  But the bad news is that my doctor is telling me to be prepared to spend a couple of nights in the hospital.

And the funniest part!!!  Mom is getting her hysterectomy today, so she is in the hospital too.  So not only can she not visit me, but I can not visit her.  And she will be recovering from her surgery, so I won't be seeing her for a while.   Talk about bad timing!!

So after hanging out in the hospital for a while I sent Kevin home to get Peyton in bed for school tomorrow.  Kevin was going back and forth about staying with me at the hospital, but I talked him out of it.  What good would it do anyway?  The best thing was to get Peyton home to continue on with his routine.  Hopefully things will look better tomorrow.

Acting silly in the hospital before going home for the night.
